Fallen giants Tigresses appeal for sponsorship

Fallen netball giants Tigresses have attributed their poor run in the 2016 season to lack of sponsorship and departure of some key players.

The sky fell on the once invincible Tigresses on Saturday when Kukoma Diamonds wrestled the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League (BDNL) following a 49-28 loss.

Diamonds also snatched the Presidential Cup from their rivals.

Tigresses team manager Hellene Mpinganjira-Tasosa and star player Sindi Simtowe-Msowoya admitted that it was a disappointing season for the team.

“There were several contributing factors such as lack of sponsorship and the departure of some key players.

“To compete at the top level you need funds to motivate the players and for other operations,” she said.

However, Mpinganjira-Tasosa vowed that her team will bounce back in the coming season.

“We will go back to the drawing board and strategise for the coming season. We need to recharge our batteries.”

On her part, Simtowe-Msowoya said: “Personally, I think our main challenge is sponsorship, it is really taking a toll on us and I appeal to well-wishers and the corporate world to come to our rescue.

“All is not lost, I am optimistic that if we put our act together, we can bounce back next season.”

On the other hand, it was a fantastic season for Diamonds who swept all silverware and they even had the luxury to win the league with a game to spare.

Diamonds are at the summit of the 10-team league with insurmountable 51 points from 17-straight wins while Tigresses have slipped to third with 42 points from the same number of games.

Rejuvenated Thunder Queens are now second with 45 points. n
