Twenty two-year-old Osman Majoni who was working for Petrol Save, a building construction company based in Blantyre, died yesterday after a beam fell on him.

According to the site foreman, Anthony Willie, there were six people working on a beam supporting a gate to the warehouse that forms part of a compound belonging to Chirimba Garage at Ginnery Corner. It was formerly occupied by Nation Publications Limited.

“We had successfully disengaged it, but we were having problem to bring it down without causing damage to the goods in the warehouse. Some were saying we should leave it for another day because it could cause an accident while others were saying we should carry on.

“The boys continued with

the work when all of a sudden it fell and hit the deceased on the head,” said Willie, adding that the heavy beam rested on the deceased’s body for some time before workmates pushed it off him.

Majoni was immediately rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

+The deceased came from Nawawa Village in Traditional Authority Njewa in Lilongwe.
