FAM electoral body has confirmed receipt of final lists of delegates from affiliates ahead of Saturday’s elective general assembly slated for Mangochi.

In accordance with Article 26.4 of FAM statutes, member associations are required to confirm the final names of delegates at least 72 hours before the annual general meeting (AGM).

The electoral body’s chairperson Sylvester Kalembera, a High Court of Malawi judge, last week said to that effect, affiliates were supposed to confirm the final lists by 9am yesterday.

Gunda: We are in receipt of the final lists

And FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda, who is also the electoral body’s secretary, confirmed that by cut-off point yesterday, all the affiliates had confirmed their final lists.

“We are in receipt of the final lists from all the affiliates and having proved that they are bonafide members, we are proceeding with accreditation,” he said.

“I can safely say we are now set for the polls.”

Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) general secretary MasiyaNyasulu said they have maintained their initial list.

NRFA was the only affiliate which sent the required number of delegates last week while the others sent provisional lists surpassing the required number of delegates.

“The procedure in accordance with the constitution is that affiliates are supposed to send the required number and names of delegates and are free to change at least 72 hours before the AGM,” said Nyasulu.

Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) chairperson Raphael Humba, whose body initially sent a provisional list of 10, yesterday said they had now confirmed the final list of six delegates.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) contributes eight delegates, which is the highest, followed by the three regional associations which provide six each.

National Women’s Football Association, National Youth Football Committee, National Football Referees Association, National Football Coaches Association and Beach Soccer Malawi are entitled to two delegates each.

Incumbent Walter Nyamilandu and his vice-president James Mwenda will contest for presidency while DaudMtanthiko and JabbarAlide, who are executive members in the outgoing committee, will tussle for first vice-presidency.

The position of second vice-president has also attracted two aspirants incumbent Othaniel Hara and NRFA chairperson LameckKhonje.

Only one contestant FelistasDossi, who was nominated by almost all affiliates, will have the luxury of being ushered in unopposed for the newly-created female executive member position while six male candidates—Muhammad Selemani, Rashid Mtelera, Christopher Kuyera, Davies Saddo, Masiya  Nyasuluand  Chimango Munthali will tussle for four slots.
