FAM Cup beach soccer finals on

Salima will be the place to be today as eight teams battle it out in the finals of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Beach Soccer Cup at the Sunbird Livingstonia.

Announcing the news on Wednesday in Lilongwe, Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) publicity secretary Vincent Chirambo said preparations for the event have been finalised and that beach soccer lovers and those who will make it to the lake will be treated to breathtaking beach soccer skills.

Southern Region Beach Soccer League will be represented by Mangochi Escom and Nkopola, from the Central Region it will be FC Malawi and Sunbird Livingstonia, Puma and Madala from  Karonga while  Chintheche League in Nkhata Bay will be represented by Nyerere and Beach Eagles.

The champions will receive K500 000 and a trophy whereas runners-up will get K250 000. The third-placed team will take home K150 000 while fourth-placed team will get K100 000. The other four teams will get  K50 000 each as appearance fee.

In individual prizes, player of the tournament and top goal scorer will be awarded K20 000 each.

Chirambo also said part of the sponsorship from FAM will cater for other costs such as transport, food and accommodation.

He said the finals will be spiced with a disco and family entertainment.

“We are delighted that every year the game of beach soccer is showing signs of growth and seriousness in approach as experienced from high level of competition showcased by the teams during the Presidential Cup and from the raised amounts in the prize money for the tournament,” he said.

FAM vice-president James Mwenda and executive member Rashid Ntelera will grace the finals. n
