FAM has dismissed Mighty Wanderers claim that Civo United featured midfielder Gerald Nkungula illegally in their Super League match last Friday which the Civil Servants won 1-0 to dent the Wanderers’ title hopes.

Nomads general secretary David Kanyenda told The Nation on Sunday that they will be lodging a formal complaint to FAM on Civo’s featuring of Nkungula on the basis that he was still contracted to a Mozambican team.

“We have evidence that Nkungula is contracted to a Mozambican team and he is, therefore, ineligible to play unless he is formally cleared.

“We are formally lodging a complaint to FAM tomorrow and we will copy it to Sulom,” said Kanyenda.

He said they are taking the matter up with FAM instead of Sulom because it is FAM that deals with international transfer issues.

However, Fifa-FAM international transfer matching system (TMS) manager Casper Jangale said the Nomads have no case because Nkungula is a free agent.

“We checked with the last club that he played for [HBO Songo] and we proved that he is not under contract and is, therefore, free to join a team of his choice,” said Jangale.

Nkungula’s manager Nelito James Pondomale corroborated Jangale’s claims.

“He was indeed contracted to HBO Songo and was later loaned to Chingale de Tete where his contract expired. The club could not renew his contract because their Zambian coach [Wedson Nyirenda] brought five players from Zambia with him, as a condition for his employment,” said Pondomale.

He said he is currently negotiating another deal for Nkungula, whom he described as “a fantastic player”.
