Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive committee (ex-co) is today expected to endorse the successful candidate for the post of technical director during its quarterly meeting to be held virtually.

A statement FAM released  yesterday says the meeting is also expected to approve the successful candidate for the first-ever permanent Malawi National Women’s Football Team, the Scorchers.

Nyamilandu: A determination on the timing will be made

In an interview yesterday, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu said after the endorsement, the executive committee will discuss the timing of recruitment and availability of funds on the same.

“Interviews were already conducted for both posts and successful candidates were identified. So, we’ll be going through the reports and then make a determination on the timing of recruitment which will be determined by the availability of funds.

FAM technical sub-committee chairperson Tiya Somba-Banda last week said the association short-listed four expatriate candidates out of the 13 initial applicants, but only three took part in virtual interviews.

The three, whose names have not been disclosed are from Spain Romania and Scotland, but Weekend Nation has established that the Romanian has come out tops.

According to the FAM statement, the meeting will also discuss Under-17 and Under-20 national teams’ preparations for Cosafa tournaments.

It will also discuss Flames’ 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) campaign roadmap in terms of technical readiness and support, material/equipment support and resource mobilisation progress.

The meeting will also tough on the next football calendar, including the upcoming Airtel Top 8 and the 2022 Super League season.

It will also look at the association’s financial report and management updates.
