The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) finally issued football sensation Gabadinho Mhango’s international transfer certificate (ITC) on Monday.

The development meant Gabadinho’s South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bloemfontein Celtic would be able to finalise his registration and the player was eligible to feature in yesterday’s league match against Moroka Swallows.

Despite his earlier insistence that they could not issue the player’s ITC as the transfer window in South Africa was closed, Fifa-FAM transfer matching system [TMS] manager Casper Jangale yesterday confirmed issuing the ITC.

“It is true, we finally cleared him yesterday as his was a special case since Celtic through Safa [South Africa Football Association] gave valid reasons to have his ITC processed and Fifa accepted,” said Jangale.

Fifa accepted Gabadinho’s new particulars after he obtained another passport which has his real age, meaning that he is no longer a minor as his previous passport indicated.

The new travel document has the player’s date of birth as September 27 1992 and not 1996 as was stated in the previous one.

Gabadinho, through the Malawi Embassy in South Africa, applied for a new passport [number MA 40738] that was issued by the Department of Immigration in Blantyre on September 11 2013 and will expire on September 10 2023.
