FAM hails Mulli Brothers

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has hailed Mulli Brothers Limited (MBL) for taking a leading role in the development of rural football in the Southern Region

The association’s president Walter Nyamilandu said this in reaction to the company’s gesture to sponsor the Mulanje and Phalombe Districts Football Leagues to the tune of K1 million (about $4 000) each.

The Mulanje League will be launched today while the Phalombe one was launched two weeks ago.

Nyamilandu said district leagues are vital in the development of the game as they provide an essential platform for exposing rural talent.

“We need every district to have a league so that rural talent should be exposed to competitive football at a very early stage. We therefore do not take the sponsorship from Mulli for granted and we urge other companies to come in and sponsor other districts.

“As FAM we pledge full support to ensure that these leagues are run professionally run to safeguard the funding,” he said.

Nyamilandu will grace the launch today [Sunday] which will be presided over by the managing director of MBL Leston Mulli

Reports also show that MBL intends to spread the sponsorship to other districts like Mwanza, Neno and Chikhwawa.

MBL human resources and administration manager Chris Kamphinda-Banda confirmed talks are underway with the Southern Region Football Committee (SRFC) on spreading the sponsorship.

Chonde Madrid and Lujeri Estate will play in the launch game.
