Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has commended Stadal Building Contractors (SBC) for sponsoring a two-day Mangochi beach soccer tournament to the tune of K200 000 (about $588).
FAM executive member James Mwenda said the gesture shown by Stadal Construction will help to improve the sport in the country.
“Beach soccer has become popular in Malawi, but lack of sponsorship for the Mangochi League affected the standard of the sport. On behalf of FAM, we are really grateful to you for coming in. I really hope you will sponsor the district league too,” said Mwenda.
BSM president Kondwani Gondwe echoed Mwenda’s remarks, saying the league in the South is on the verge of decline.
“This is a lifeline for the sport in the South. People had started to lose interest, but with your coming in, things will improve for the better,” said Gondwe.
The tournament will be held at Nkopola Lodge on March 2.
SBC managing director Stafford Mpoola, said he decided to inject money in beach soccer after being approached by Mwenda and FAM second vice-president Pikawo Ngalamila.
