FAM has hiked gate entry charges for the Flames’ 2014 World Cup home qualifier against Nigeria by 50 percent for the open stands.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) commercial manager Casper Jangale announced at a press briefing held at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Limbe on Thursday that fans will pay K750 (about $3) from the normal K500 ($2) to get the glimpse of the action from the open stands.

FAM also announced that a seat in the comfort of the VIP enclosure will cost K12 000 ($48) up from K10 000 ($40) whereas a ticket for the covered stands has been pegged at K6 000 ($24). At MBC Stand, spectators will have to cough K3 000 ($12).

However, Jangale said as for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations second round, second leg qualifier against Chad, the fans will pay K10 000 for VIP, half the amount [K5 000] for covered stands, K2 500 ($10) MBC Stand and K500 for open stands.

Jangale justified the hike saying service providers have raised their charges.

“Some of our service providers raised their charges even before the devaluation and when you factor in the issue of the fall of the kwacha, then you will appreciate that it was necessary that we revise the gate charges,” Jangale said.
