The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has called on the local sports media to help the association secure an official sponsor for the national team, the Flames.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said this on Monday at Kamuzu Stadium where Malawian Airlines donated air tickets worth K1 million to help some of the foreign-based Flames players fly from South Africa ahead of today’s friendly against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

“We do not necessarily need one sponsor but several. We need your help so that we can market this game. We may have some negatives, but we also have positives which you can highlight. I believe if you the media repeatedly write that the Flames need a partner, we will find one,” Nyirenda said.

Earlier, Malawian Airlines marketing officer Mike Ndaombwa said as a national flag carrier, they felt obliged to also help the national team “as we are both national flag carriers”.
