Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) electoral body has released the final list of contestants for the association’s December 14 elections scheduled for Mangochi.

The body has also released a provisional list of delegates to the elective general assembly.

A statement signed by the committee’s secretary Alfred Gunda, states that: “Basing on the background of FAM Statutes Article 37 and referring to FAM electoral code Article 13, FAM’s Electoral Committee is mandated to release final official list of names of candidates to all the member associations of the FAM general assembly and, where necessary, to the relevant government bodies no less than 15 days before the elective FAM general assembly which shall also be published in press.”

Kalembera: This is per what affiliates submitted

The list has two candidates aspiring for presidency—incumbent Walter Nyamilandu and his vice-president James Mwenda.

Two of the current executive committee members Jabbar Alide and Daud Mtanthiko will tussle for first vice-presidency.

On the position of second vice-president, incumbent second vice-president Othaniel Hara will face Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) chairperson Lameck Khonje.

Six aspirants— Christopher Kuyera, Chimango Munthali, Rashid Ntelera, Masiya Nyasulu, Davis Sado and Muhamad Seleman—will compete for the four male executive committee member slots.

Felister Dossi is tipped to go unopposed for the female executive member position as she has no competitor.

Meanwhile, only NRFA has submitted its list of six delegates for the AGM while the others have submitted provisional lists from which they will be required to choose their delegates at least three days before the general assembly.

“In accordance with Article 26.4 of the statutes, member associations are required to confirm the final names of the delegates at least 72 hours before the general assembly [14th December 2019 by 9:00am].

“The member associations are reminded that the delegates designated for the general assembly must possess a valid identification to be presented to the secretariat for accreditation to the general assembly,” reads a statement from the electoral body.

In an interview yesterday, the electoral body’s chairperson Sylvester Kalembera, a High Court of Malawi judge, said they receive names as submitted by the affiliates.
