Football Association of Malawi (FAM) yesterday started advance sales of tickets for the Airtel Top 8 final between Silver Strikers and Karonga United at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe this Saturday.

In an interview yesterday, FAM commercial and marketing director Limbani Matola said buying tickets in advance is cheaper than on the match day.

Matola: It is worrisome

“We have deliberately put the ticket charges at a price most people can afford in addition to the fact that we are selling the tickets in advance as early as Wednesday [yesterday] to provide opportunity and convenience for the fans to access the tickets easily,” he said.

For covered stands advance tickets are pegged at K1 000 while on match day they are at K1 500, VIP stands advance tickets are at K5 000 and K7 000 on the match day while advance tickets for corporate box are at K8 000 and K10 000 on the match day.

Matola said tickets are available at Mbowe, Kafoteka and  Area 18 service stations and Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

He said the 2019 Airtel final has generated a lot of interest with the fairy tale run of top-flight league minnows Karonga United.

“For the first time we are having a team from the North as far as Karonga coming down to play in the final at the magnificent Bingu National Stadium. This has been our desire to expose our football talents to the highest national levels,” Matola said.

He said they are expecting an explosive match with Silver vying for a second title in three years while Karonga are on the verge of making history as the first team from the Northern Region to win the cup.

In an interview yesterday, Karonga United chairperson Alufeyo Chipanga said they were expecting to get a good package from gate collection.

“We are hopeful that we will get good revenue,” he said.
