FAM to revise Standard Bank Cup dates, venues

Listen to this article

FAM has said it will revise Standard Bank Knockout Cup dates and venues following the closure of Kamuzu Stadium in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre.

Last week, FAM released fixtures of the Standard Bank Cup quarter-final matches that indicated that the first legs would be played on September 1 and Kamuzu Stadium was one of the earmarked venues.

Apparently, the date for the quarter-final matches clash with the new date for the Presidential Cup final.

The closure of Kamuzu Stadium led to FAM shifting the final of the Presidential Cup final between Big Bullets and Moyale Barracks to Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

According to the Standard Bank Cup first legs quarter-final fixture that was released by FAM, Big Bullets were scheduled to host Epac FC at Kamuzu Stadium.

However, FAM competitions manager Casper Jangale said: “In view of the decision to close Kamuzu Stadium as well as the postponement of the Presidential Cup final, it means we will have to review the Standard Bank Cup fixtures.

“The organising committee will meet in the course of the week to map the way forward.”
