Football Association of Malawi (FAM) wants K80 million (about $266 666) from the sale of Surestream Stadium that has been offered to Surestream Academy.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu, who was reluctant to divulge the figures, on Sunday said: “We bought the facility at K22 million [about $73 333], but with the devaluation, we are expecting something between K60 million [about $200 000] and K80 million.”

He said Surestream made an offer, but it was on the lower side.

“So, we are currently waiting for Surestream to make a better offer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Surestream Academy have said they will now embark on extending the multi-million kwacha project following FAM’s decision on their request to buy the stadium.

The academy’s founder and director Chris Pitman said they will soon start constructing an educational centre, a fully fledged gym and hostels.

“It is fantastic news. Obviously, we are delighted with FAM executive’s decision to accept our request because we will be able to engage an extra gear on the project.

“As I stated before, we want this to be a complete academy for the good of Malawi football. We would like to see Malawi producing its own Demba Ba through this academy not far from now and we hope to get the necessary support from all stakeholders,” said Pitman.

Pitman said he will be coming to Malawi soon to seal the stadium deal.
