The African Movie Academy Awards (Amaa) will hold an exclusive fashion event with Fashion Edition Malawi (Fame) in the run up to the awards’ nomination gala.

The nomination gala event presents the rest of Africa with movies and those involved in the film making industry that stand a chance of winning awards in a red carpet event to take place in Nigeria on April 16.

As part of the build-up to the much anticipated night, local organisers Fame and Amaa will on March 14 hold an exclusive fashion show where three local designers will be joined by three Nigerian clothes creators.

“Designers Lilly Alfonso, Yavinde Nyasulu and Isaac Bukhu of Haus of Gola will raise the Malawi flag on that evening at new Msonkhano Hall at Ufulu Gardens. This will be the biggest event to take place after the hall was opened few months ago. The Nigerian designers are yet to confirm, but whatever the case three are coming from that side,” said Fame creative director and co-founder Zilanie Nyundo.

“It will be strictly by invitation which will be mainly extended to fashion stakeholders in the country. Of course, the public will also attend,” added Nyundo.

There are several interesting developments associated with the event, including a fashion business forum.

“The local designers will dress the Amaa team with clothes made from David Whitehead and Sons fabrics. We have done this in order to promote Malawi’s textile industry. Other than that, there will be a fashion business forum where Fame experts will be joined by their Nigerian counterparts to hold a fashion workshop.

“Nigerian models will be used as trainers during the fashion business forum. However, for the fashion show, 30 local models will be used and Regal Modelling Agency is supplying the models who have been identified already,” she said.
