Fashion police at Malawi Fashion Week night

They say the fashion Police is in town. That’s what organisers of Malawi Fashion Week (MFW) are saying loud and clear. You pay K2 500 (about $6.25) at the door, wear a designer outfit, and if you don’t meet the expectations of the fashion police, you will not be let into the events being hosted in Lilongwe and Blantyre, Friday and Saturday nights.

In a bid to create a fashion conscious society as the build- up to Malawi Fashion Week continues, organisers will this weekend hold fashion police nights where apart from fun, people will be grilled in terms of dressing.

“We will start the fashion nights with a show in Lilongwe on the 29th at the Living Room and in Blantyre on 30th at Lucky Lucianos. The idea is to create hype for MFW which is scheduled for May 30 to June 3. Those not fashion alert will be sent off at the venue or will have to pay a fine. We want people to be aware of the on-going fashion trends,” said MFW public relations manager Hastings Kimpho Loka.

“What we are saying is people need to look classy, fashionable, elegant and dress to impress. There will also be raffle draws and competitions with lots of surprises for people who will attend the events. We will have six fashion nights spread equally between Lilongwe and Blantyre,” he added.

There will also be entertainment to be provided by Afro R’n’B star Lawrence ‘Lulu’ Khwisa.
