Fawema donates K5 million textbooks to CK schools

In a bid to promote early grade learning among learners in the country, Forum for African Women Educationists in Malawi (Fawema) has donated over 3 000 text books worth K5 million ($8 361) to two education zones in Chikwawa district.

They donated the books under, ‘Promoting girls’ education through early grade learning project’ a two-year project which spans between 2015 and 2017 are aimed at teaching early grade learners to read and write.

The targeted education zones are Ngabu and Livunzu.

Speaking when presenting the donation, Chikwawa district Fawema coordinator WanangwaM’ganga said, among other activities, her organisation has employed teaching assistants who are expected to assist qualified teachers as one way of reducing workload.

M’ganga said if children are able to read and write they will be able to do well in other subjects.

“The books distributed are Nditha kuwerenga, Maziko Akuwerenga, teachers’ guides as well as other learners’ books,” she said.

Livunzu primary education advisor (PEA), Glasten Chisale commended Fawema for the donation, which he described as timely.

Fawema made the donation with support from the IM Swedish Development Partner.
