A fund-raising golf organised by the Forum for Africa Women Educationist in Malawi (Fawema) at Lilongwe Golf Club on Sunday raised K1 million (about $3 333).

The tournament drew 15 teams of four golfers each and at the end of the day, it was the Dulux Team of Frank Mvalo, Frank Chinkhandwe, OH Chow and Ken Manda that triumphed with 92 points.

Momentum Health team which had Bright Kamanga, Mervin Donga, Moses Nthakomwa and Patrick Shycall came second with 90 points. On third position was ADL team of Justin Mkandawire, Brian Coombes, Moses Limuwa and Greshon Chioma.

“We have over 15 girls for whom we are paying secondary school fees, so we are grateful to companies and individuals who have sponsored today’s event which has raised K1 million. We are overwhelmed by this support,” said Fawema national coordinator, Hendrina Givah.

Convener of the golf Stallard Mpata, who is also one of the trustees, hailed the turnout of the golfers and the financial support rendered to Fawema.

The tournament was sponsored by Dulux, Deekay Supplies, TNM, Staples, MDF, Wusc, Bowler, Lilongwe Academy, MBC, Inde Trust, Delloite, Brymoss, Wilam Faulkner, ADL, Momentum Health, Kaphwereza Banda, Design Printers, A Chitedze and Standard Bank.
