FDH Bank plc has given K2 million to Friends of Embangweni Mission Hospital in Mzimba to enable the grouping buy personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline health workers to fight against Covid-19.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday in Blantyre, FDH Bank plc head of personal and business banking Kawawa Msapato said the global pandemic has brought many challenges in the world and Malawi has not been spared.

He said: “The needs of this health facility go without question during this pandemic because it is serving a large population in the district and neighbouring territories.

“The initiative by Friends of Embangweni Mission Hospital to solicit funds to offer Covid-19 relief intervention to the hospital is noble. We have stepped in with a donation to support the cause and the funds will assist in the acquisition of PPE and for awareness campaigns.”

A representative of Friends of Embangweni Mission Hospital, Mary Mbewa, said the donation will help in the fight against the pandemic in the district.

She said: “The need is big and we are still short of K2 million, which we will still be soliciting. The hospital gets funds from missionaries and some of our counterparts who were supporting us have died because of the disease. This is a huge challenge for us.”n
