Festive season activities

Listen to this article

Once again, it is that time of the year when merry-making takes centre stage. It is that time of the year when we unwind and refocus our thinking.

DIY can also feature in your unwinding programmes. I have suggested so because at times our stresses can emanate from monotonous and routine activities that make life boring and unchallenging.

Exposing ourselves to new challenges during the Christmas vacation can help refresh our minds.

Many of us work in confined places and DIY ideas like gardening, can help us to have ample time to enjoy fresh air. There are several outdoor activities that can be undertaken during the free time that Christmas and New Year holidays have provided.

The lawns, for instance, have started growing at a faster rate, thanks to the rains that have fallen in the past few weeks, this season can give us a chance to slash the grass without waiting for hired hands.

These holidays can give you, dear reader, a chance to clean your car the DIY way. It will prevent you the trouble of going to a car wash and waiting for your turn for your car to be attended to.

This vacation can also be beneficial to pets. You can use the free time to wash your dogs. Just buy dog shampoo, read the instructions and wash your dog clean. This is better than taking your dog to a dip tank where you may not be sure about the strength of the solution in the tub, especially when your dog is among the last to be served for the day.

This time of the year is a chance to check your house for any leakages in the roof before they get worse. Many of us are rarely at home and this festive season, when we are sure it is going to rain, just spend some time and check the ceiling for any stains that show that the ceiling boards once got in contact with water. If you find such evidence, it may be time for you to roll-up your sleeves and mount a ladder to check the nails around that area and push them back into position with a hammer.

In the event that you tried this before and it did not work, please apply flash bands, sealants that are applied above the nails to cover the area where the nails may have left some space.

It is my humble wish that you will enjoy your festive season and God Almighty will be on your side to guide and we inch into the year 2016.

If you want it perfectly done, do it yourself. n
