Fifa delegates arrive today for Under-15 football launch

Fifa development officer for Southern Africa Ashford Mamelodi is today expected to arrive in the country to lead the world soccer governing body’s delegation for a press conference and the launch of Fifa/ FAM Under-15 Regional Leagues.

Mamelodi, who is also owner of South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Mamelodi Sundowns, is scheduled to attend the conference at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre today at 3pm along with presidents for Lesotho and Botswana football associations and Fifa technical development officer for Southern Africa Govinden Thondoo.

According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) technical director John Kaputa, the Fifa delegates will also attend the launching ceremony at the same venue on Saturday from 8:30am.

“Ministers of Sports, Health and Education plus mayors of the four cities, district commissioners and education managers for all the 18 participating districts will also be in attendance,” he said.

He added that the launch will be spiced up by official opening games for the South/Eastern Region between Zomba Urban and Chiradzulu as well as a Central Region encounter between Lilongwe Urban and Dedza.

The leagues will be participated by under-15 district teams from 18 districts, 11 in the Central Region and seven in the Southern/Eastern Region. n
