Fire guts KIA VIP guardroom

Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) VIP’s guardroom was on Friday evening partially damaged by fire that started at around 18:20 hours.

KIA Police public relations officer Sapulain Chitowe said the guardroom building which is separate from the main VIP lounge, but share a common roof, caught fire after electric power which was off for almost a day had returned.

He said except for the minor damages to the building, no one was injured in the fire.

“The carpet and sockets got destroyed by fire and five louvre glasses got broken and walls of the building have been painted black by smoke,” said Chitowe.

He said Kamuzu International Airport’s Fire Department and airport’s police rushed to the building and managed to put out the fire.

According to Chitowe, business at KIA has returned to normal and all operations are in order. n
