Big Bullets’ veteran winger Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe has vowed to defend the TNM Super League’ best player accolade next season, thereby, effectively dispelling retirement rumours.

After winning the award that came along with a K120 (about $240) 000 prize during the league’s gala night at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex on Friday, the 37-year-old, who is the longest serving member at Bullets having played his debut match in 1998, said soccer fans should expect an even more exciting performance next season.

There has been a gossip in the public domain that Anong’a has finally quit active football after helping Bullets to with the league title for the first time in a decade.

“Recently, I thought of hanging my boots because people were talking too much saying I am too old to be an active footballer. But I have changed my mind so as not to be a coward. I will work even harder next season to defend the best player title so as to prove the critics wrong.

“The rampant frustrating talks among the public have made me stronger and nothing can stop me from achieving great success in the twilight of my soccer career,” said Kondowe, the remnant of the Bullets squad that won the league and participated in the CAF Club Championships in 2004.

Early this year, the dreadlocked Rasta told Nation on Sunday that as a vegetarian and a hard-worker, he longs to get into the record books as the longest serving Super League player and the oldest active footballer in the country.
