Fish Eagle lead FMB second-round in Mzuzu

High flying Fish Eagles of the FMB Under-20 League in Mzuzu City kicked off the second round of the league with wins at the weekend.

The second round, scheduled to kick off three weeks ago, delayed because teams were yet to finish paying their affiliation fees.

Fish Eagles—who are the league’s national defending champions—beat Area 1B 3-0 on Saturday.

Laughter Mwafulirwa, Egson Mwakitaro and Evance Yasini were on target for Fish Eagles.

On Sunday, Fish Eagles defeated Chibavi FC 1-0.

Christopher Msowoya scored the lone goal.

Fish Eagles now lead the log table with 38 points from 15 games.

Their striker, Yasin, leads with 26 goals.

Police Youth are second with 33 points from 15 games played.

Fourteen teams are participating in this year’s K20 million FMB Under-20 League.

Coach for Fish Eagles Patrick Tembo said he is happy with the performance of his players.

“Our aim is to defend the national championship. With the way my players are displaying, we will achieve our goal,” said Tembo.

Meanwhile, Northern Region Youth Football Committee vice-general secretary Edson Musopole has described this year’s tournament as very competitive.

“We have started the second-round on a high note. It is clear that this year’s league is very competitive,” said Musopole.
