Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions director Mike ‘Bangwe 1’ Chitenje has said the proposed professional non-title bout between local top boxer Chimwemwe ‘Rhino’ Chiotcha and Zimbawean welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi has generated a lot of interest from potential sponsors.

The bout is slated for end of next month at a venue to be announced at a later stage.

Chitenje yesterday said so far, five local companies, namely Safari General Dealers, Nangaunozge Building Contractors, Chombe Tea, Bath, and Tile Connections and Tile and Tape have pledged to sponsor the bout.

“Manyuchi is rated one of the top boxers in the region and having already defeated Osgood Kayuni, people want to see how he will fair against ‘Chipembere’ [the rhino] who is considered one of the best boxers on the domestic scene at the moment,” said Chitenje.

He said Chiotcha has already started preparing for the bout.

Chitenje said that discussions with Manyuchi’s Zambian promoters—Oriental Boxing Quarries—on the bout are currently under way.

“I believe it will be an exciting fight and Chiotcha is the right boxer to stop Manyuchi in his tracks. Should Chiotcha lose, then I will personally return to the ring and challenge Manyuchi,” said Chitenje.

Manyuchi boasts of 10 wins [including four knockouts] out of 13 professional bouts. He has drawn once and lost twice.

Chiotcha said the Zimbabwean will be his springboard to realising his dream of earning an international belt.
