Five die in Chiradzulu accident

Five people died while 30 others were seriously injured when a five tonne vehicle travelling from Limbe to Phalombe overturned in Chiradzulu.

Chiradzulu Police Station head of traffic department Trinity Kambuzi confirmed the accident, saying the truck over-turned three times due to break failure on September 5 2015.accident

He said: “The truck was carrying about 40 people and goods from Limbe to Phalombe. Two men, one woman and two children were confirmed dead at Chiradzulu District Hospital where they were rushed to. About 30 passengers were referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for intensive care while others are admitted at Chiradzulu Hospital.

“However, only five people, including the driver of the lorry survived with minor injuries and were treated as out-patients at the hospital,”

The driver has been identified as Manyamba Kandaya, 38, from Nambale Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chiwalo in Phalombe District.

One of the survivors, Watson Bauleni, 45, from Nambazo Village in Phalombe said the driver told him that the vehicle’s breaks had stopped working.

The accident happened along the Chiradzulu- Phalombe Road about in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kadewere.
