Five new stadiums ready in 2017

Government says it will finish construction of five standard stadiums nationwide by 2017.

The stadiums will be constructed with a K1.9 million grant from Germany.

Director of urban development in the Local Development Fund (LDF) which is under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mike Moyo, said government wants to promote sports in the country through infrastructure development.

Moyo said on Wednesday that the stadiums will be constructed in all the three regions of the country.

“The government wants to promote sports through infrastructure development. We have got K1.9 billion grant from Germany government for the construction of the facilities across the country.

“Two stadiums will be built in the North in Karonga and Rumphi, the other two in the South in Mangochi and Mulanje and one in Central Region in Kasungu district,” he said.

The stadiums, according to Moyo will have a capacity of 15 000 to 20 000 people.
