Malawi’s national football team (the Flames) were on Monday drawn in a relatively fair Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) Tusker Senior Challenge Cup group.

The three-time winners, Flames are in a four-member group C comprising Rwanda, Eritrea and Zanzibar, according to FAM’s statement issued after the draw which took place in Kampala, Uganda, ahead of the November 24 to December 8 2012 championship.

Flames emerged the only chosen guest participants to the regional showpiece which comprises three groups playing in preliminary round stages with top two making the quarter-final slot.

Defending champions Uganda lead ‘group of death’ A consisting of Kenya, Ethiopia and debutants South Sudan. Group B has Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi and Somalia.

Ethiopia are participating despite being the only one from the regional soccer bloc to make the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals while Djibouti are conspicuously absent.
