FMB in a blood donation drive

People in Blantyre Central Business District (CBD) on Saturday joined First Merchant Bank (FMB) members of staff in donating blood at the bank’s premises along Livingstone Towers.

Every three months, the bank in partnership with Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS) organises a blood donation drive to mobilise its members of staff and the general public to donate blood.

The bank’s head of marketing Sylvia Nankwenya said the drive aims at ensuring that the country’s hospitals have enough blood.

“We realise that it is our social responsibility to help those in need of blood in the country’s hospitals and am glad that everything is working according to plan. We are we are now into the third year of conducting blood donation drives,” she said.

MBTS representative Natalya Mbale expressed satisfaction with the number of companies coming forward to support MBTS’ initiatives.

“You know that during this period we have festivities and rains, so we need more blood in hospitals due to increased number of accidents and malaria induced anemia,” said Mbale.
