During check presentation in Blantyre on Wednesday, the bank’s head of transactional banking Ewen Hiwa said they have decided to sponsor cricket for the fourth year in a row because they are committed to the development of the minority sport in the country.

“Over the years, we have endeavored to promote minority sports disciplines including cricket and hockey. We also support grassroots football in a big way through the FMB Under-20 League,” he said.

“This is our way of giving back to the community in areas we feel have big social impact. We are proud to contribute to the advancement of cricket in Malawi.”

FMB brand manager Brian Mungomo Jnr said the bank is also delighted to see indigenous Malawians being involved in the annual competition.

MSC chairperson Farouk Ibrahim Nathanie, who was accompanied by his deputy Iqbal Aboo, thanked FMB for continued financial support.

According to Aboo, the development means the 2018 edition of the competition will throw off next week and will comprise 14 teams from MSC, Indian Sports Club (ISC) and Oriental Cricket Club (OCC).

“The tournament will run for two months and we expect to have our finals in mid November,” he said. n
