The assurance was made by the bank’s marketing manager Widdey Nsona during a prize presentation ceremony of the K2 million ($3,571) 11-aside Hockey League at Country Club Limbe in Blantyre.

“We are impressed with the spirit of competition displayed by the participating teams. The competition was stiff this year leading to more excitement,” he said.

He also urged teams that did not qualify for prizes to work extra hard next season.

During the event, Genetrix men’s and women’s teams were officially crowned champions. They were each rewarded with a trophy and K280 000 ($500).

Runners-up in the men’s league were Scorpions while in the women’s section it were Braves. They got K150 000 ($268) each. Nyala and Simba were third in men’s and women’s leagues respectively and they each got K100 000 ($179).

Hockey Association of Malawi (HAM) vice-general secretary Grace Jana described the event as colourful.

“The teams had been looking forward to this day for quite a while after a long season. We would like to thank our sponsors and partners, FMB, for helping promote and develop hockey in Malawi,” she said. n
