FMB Under-20 Football League has been extended to three more districts in addition to the existing nine.
However, this will be done through a selection process that will see people voting for the three from the eight nominated districts that have FMB branches.

FMB marketing manager Widdey Nsona said at a press briefing yesterday that people will be required to vote for either Liwonde (Machinga) or Mulanje in the Southern Region; Kasungu, Salima, Mponela or Dwangwa in the Central Region and Rumphi or Mzimba in the Northern Region.

The most-voted district in each region will join Blantyre, Zomba, Mangochi, Dedza, Mchinji, Lilongwe, Nkhata Bay, Karonga and Mzuzu in the competition.
“Previously, we consulted the National Youth Football Association [NYFA] for guidance whenever we wanted to add more districts in the competition, but now it is up to the public to decide through voting,” said Nsona.

“Each individual, whether an FMB customer or not, will be required to vote for only one district by sending an SMS or WhatsApp written ‘First Mobile and name of the district’ to 0886 449 198.”

He said voting will start from April 1 to April 23. Voters stand a chance of winning various prizes that include cash, airtime and T-shirts.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) general secretary Alfred Gunda and NYFA committee member Wasauka Nyirenda were present during the press conference.

“FMB League is our biggest platform for nurturing talent and is a bridge between youth and senior national football teams. We are part of this innovation and we will work with the bank to make youth football vibrant,” Gunda said.
