Registration of teams in the K500 000 (about $1 666) FMB Under-20 Football League in Zomba starts next Monday.

According to the Zomba committee’s interim general secretary, Christopher Mutopa Phiri, the league is expected to attract teams from all the five zones in the district, namely Thondwe, Zomba Central, Jali, Nsondole and Chingale.

“We are asking all the teams which fall within the required age bracket (Under-20) to come and register from Monday next week. We are expected to have a league of about 20 teams. It promises to be highly entertaining,” said Phiri.

He said an assessment of the players’ age will be done soon after registration.

“We will require the players to produce either a birth certificate or any identification document that will enable them to qualify for the tournament. This is an opportunity for soccer fans in Zomba to watch the youngsters in action,” he said.

The league, which is expected to start early next month, will run up to May next year.
