The FMB Volleyball team last Tuesday came out tops in a social volleyball tournament held at the College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre.

According to FMB head of marketing Sylvia Mataka, the tournament was part of the team’s 10-year anniversary celebrations.

FMB won all their four games played in a roundrobin format. Other teams that took part were runners-up TNM, Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust and Tseketseke.

“The team [FMB] chose to take part in a social tournament and made their founder, Meeta Anadkat, who was in attendance, proud by winning the tournament,” said Mataka.

Speaking after the games, FMB team captain Richmond Msiska said: “This is indeed a high point for us. We have celebrated our 10th anniversary in style!”

Msiska explained that when they formed the team, at the encouragement of Mrs. Anadkat, wife to their vice-chairperson, it was just to participate in a tournament that was being held at Phoenix School.

“But we stuck with it thereafter, and here we are 10 years down the road, standing proud. On behalf of my teammates, I would like to thank Mrs. Anadkat for encouraging us and FMB management for the support over the years,” he said.

Msiska also thanked the other teams that played in the tournament for their display of sportsmanship.

Besides the volleyball team that participated in the tournament, FMB has another volleyball team, three football and netball teams.
