Fomboni FC striker Wister Phiri has been training with Lilongwe-based Super League side Blue Eagles for the past two weeks, heightening speculation that he may not return to the Comoros.

Phiri said on Tuesday that his contract with Fomboni has expired; hence, his training with Eagles.

bullets_fomboni“My contract expired after the game with Big Bullets. As of now, I am training with Eagles,” he said.

Phiri was a menace to Bullets’ defence during the second leg of their clash at Kamuzu Stadium last month.

“I am thinking that in the long term I can go back to the Comoros and sign a professional contract, but what I think is appropriate for me this time is to join a club which can offer me long term employment,” he said.

Eagles captain John Banda welcomed the reunion with Phiri.

“He is a good player who can contribute a lot to the team if he rejoins us. He is training hard and giving his all during the training. We are hopeful that we will have him here,” said Phiri.

Eagles team manager Gabriel Chirwa, said Phiri has told them that he does not want to return to the Comoros.n
