Former cop wins DStv competition

A retired police officer in Mzuzu, Maliwa Eliezer Mvula has won K2 million (about $5 000) DStv promotion. DStv is carrying out a weekly K1 million (about $2 500) promotion for three months, but this one was raised to K2 million because of Easter celebrations.

MultiChoice Malawi presented the dummy cheque to Mvula at his Chiputula residence in Mzuzu on Saturday. He was excited.

“I am grateful to MultiChoice, but also to God for this prize. These things don’t just happen, but God is in the forefront,” said the winner.

Explaining what happened, Mvula said he was at his house when a man called Nyirenda phoned and told him that MultiChoice had a prize for him. He did not know what that was till he saw the cheque.

Mvula said he is not decided on what to do with the money apart from celebrating the prize.

“This has come to me like a lottery. I never thought or imagined about it and I do now know what I will do with the money. All I can assure MultiChoice is that I will be a friend forever,” said Mvula.

MultiChoice sales and marketing officer for the North and Centre George Kaulembe said the only condition for the promotion is for the subscriber to stay connected.

Kaulembe said all subscribers of different bouquets have a chance to win.

Mvula retired as inspector of police in 2006, but his wife, Judith, is still working at Mzuzu Police Station.
