The Anti-Corruption Bureau, today pounced on former budget director Paul Mphwiyo and his wife on charges bordering money laundering, theft and conspiracy to defeat the course of justice.

Mphwiyo’s wife Thandie, however, has been charged with theft and money laundering.

ACB deputy director Reyneck Matemba confirmed these two arrests to Nation Online.

He said he could not go into details about the charges because ACB was out to make more arrests and feared the disclosure could interfere with that mission.

The bureau thoroughly combed Mphwiyo’s Area 43 residential house in Lilongwe today morning.

Mphwiyo, whose shooting incident on September 13 last year at the entrance of his home at night opened a pandoras box that led to Cashgate, was being used as a State witness in the shooting incident and money laundering cases. More details and analysis read Nation On Sunday tomorrow.
