Former Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) president Rosy Chinunda, who was Malawi National Council of Sports board of directors vice-chairperson, died yesterday at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

NAM general secretary Carol Bapu said in a statement that the funeral programme was not known as we went to press.

Mourned: Chinunda

In an interview, she described the deceased as humble, dedicated and loyal to netball.

“We will remember her as a person who dedicated her life to serve netball in the country,” said Bapu.

Reacting to the development, Sports Council chairperson Sunduzwayo Madise said he was shocked with the news.

“I am gutted. I had already struck a chord working with her as the vice-chairperson of the Sports Council. She was a deep well of knowledge of sports, especially netball where she served as NAM president for a long time.

“A gentle soft-spoken soul always full of wisdom. Sports was in her blood. Sports has lost a matriarch. The country has lost an illustrious daughter.”

National team captain Carol Mtukule-Ngwira also said Chinunda was a humble and dedicated administrator. The deceased was born on February 9 1953.
