Four bouts lined up in campaign against cancer

College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in partnership with No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions has lined up four bouts for the Knockout Cancer Series scheduled for Friday night in Blantyre.

The Complex’s sales and marketing manager Jimmy Kulemeka said at a news conferencein Blantyre on Saturday that before the 12-round national super welterweight title fight between holder Limbani ‘Lion’ Masamba and challenger Dickson ‘The Beast’ Saidi, Limbani ‘Warrior’ Powder and Chikondi ‘Boltcutter’ Makawa will face-off in an eight-round super welterweight main supporting bout.

The other fights on the bout card will see Tinkhani ‘Time Bomb’ Kamanga and Yamikani ‘Crazy Yakuza’ Mkandawire battling it out in an eight-round super featherweight bout after an opening six-round female super bantamweight tussle involving Zione ‘Black Cougar’ Magulula and Duduzile ‘Dynamite’ Kankwamba.

“It has taken a long time to have a boxing fiesta in the commercial city and this is the time for the boxing-starved Blantyre fans to sample potentially explosive bouts as we raise awareness about cancer,” Kulemeka said.

The event  has seen companies such as Kwese Television, Bowler Beverages through their Aqua Pure bottled water brand, Visions Gaming, Nyasa Manufacturing Company. Kips Restaurant and Kris Offset Printers contributing their support.

Hope for Cancer Foundation, Rab Processors Limited, Old Mutual and Biz Malawi have also partnered the initiative.

No Pain No Gain chief executive officer Craig Rousseau said the bout will have corporate tables for 10 people each going at K300 000, table seat at K35 000, K20 000 VIP seat and K10 000 normal seat while students will pay K5 000.

Bowler Beverages operations manager Rick Bowler, speaking on behalf of the corporate world, said they are proud to be associated with the event, which will have 20 percent of its proceeds going to cancer treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. n
