The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court last Friday fined four people K7 000 (about $28) each or in default to serve two months imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for rogue and vagabond.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha said the court heard that Mickson Kayera (24), Hedson Bande (30), Matchetcha Phiri (38) and Mwaiwawo Banda (20) were on August 9 2012 found loitering at Ntchisi Trading Centre at around 11pm.

“This [arrest] happened after getting information from the public that some criminals were hiding in bars and bottle stores with the intention to steal despite the places having been closed for business,” he said.

Two have since paid the fine while their colleagues are serving the jail term.
