The tournament, which starts today (Thursday), is expected to attract both female and male players and will be played in singles and doubles.

Ltam president, Duncan Gumbi, and coach Haxon Methiwa, confirmed the trip, saying Mary Luhanga, Wilson Paul, Julius Taulo and James Matewere are representing Malawi at the event.

“We are confident of claiming gold in Maputo because we have sent a team capable of making Malawi proud,” said Methiwa on Monday.

Luhanga told Nation Online that she has no doubt that she will claim a gold medal.

“I have polished up in the backhand, forehand, volleys and services which I think failed me in Zambia, so I am confident of claiming gold,” said 20-year-old Luhanga.
