Four nominated for GOtv Netball awards

Four netballers will battle for the individual ‘Katswiri wa Akatswiri’ award as the 2017 edition of GOtv Netball Champions League wraps up tomorrow at Don Bosco in Lilongwe.

According to MultiChoice Malawi sales and marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda, Civonets’ Jane Chimaliro, Mafco Soldiers’ Loveness Sambo, Ellen Chiboko of Tigresses and Grace Chazungulira of Kukoma Diamonds have been nominated for the accolade.

“These players have been nominated for their uniqueness in terms of individual performance and how they coordinated with teammates in the netball court throughout the competition,” he said.

“Netball Association of Malawi [NAM] will select a few netball gurus who will vote for the ultimate winner before the final game this Saturday.”

Tomorrow, battle for the title will be between defending champions Diamonds and Civonets, who emerged first and second, respectively, during the three rounds of the Fast5-formatted contest.

Blue Eagles Sisters will entertain Mafco Soldiers in third placed game while Thunder Queens and Tigresses will fight for the fifth position. Mimosa Queens and Lameck Queens will face off in a placing match for the seventh place.

Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa said they have left no stone unturned to retain the title that comes along with K3 million prize while Civonets mentor Whyte Mlilima said they will not let an opportunity of winning their first major trophy in years slip through their fingers.

According to NAM general secretary Carol Bapu, the event will start with a trophy parade around a number of townships in Lilongwe at 8am and the gates at the venue will be opened at 10am. n
