This seems to be the season for Malawi arts as nominations keep flowing for local artists.

After Lawi’s nomination for this year’s All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) then Tay Grin, Rose Mmangisa and Alexina Phiri’s nominations for Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and Arts (Beffta) awards, mother luck has smiled on local arts as gospel musician Frank Chimpazi has been nominated for the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards.

According to Chimpazi, this is the second time for him to be nominated for the award after a debut nomination in 2011.

Chimpazi, who currently leads a church worship team in South Africa, said he was happy for the nomination.

“I want to thank God for the talent. I never thought that I would receive the nomination once again for these awards. The last time I got a nomination was in 2011. This time I hope I will manage to win the award,” he said.

The musician has been nominated in Best of Africa category for his song I Feel Jesus, which is also the title track of his fourth album released last year.

In his category, he faces Shongwe and Kuphuka Saves Group, Sammie Okposo and Seapour.

This is the seventh season of the SABC Crown Gospel Award and this year’s crowning ceremony is scheduled to take place early next month in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The first SABC Crown Gospel Awards were held in 2008 and it now boasts over 30 categories.

The winners are awarded a crown for their sterling contribution to gospel music.

The awards are given in recognition to exploits of both South African and international artists.
