A murder suspect in a case where a medical assistant at Nkhoma Mission Hospital in Lilongwe was killed has threatened lawyer Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda with a lawsuit.
Joe Kamalizeni, an administrator at the hospital and facing a murder charge over the death of Faith Chembezi, accuses Nyirenda of calling him a murderer at Kawale Police Station in Lilongwe.
Kamalizeni, through his Lilongwe-based lawyer Enock Chibwana, has demanded an apology and damages from Nyirenda in a letter dated November 25 2014.
Nyirenda is representing James Msiska, a man who lodged a complaint at the Kawale Police that he was facing intimidation at the hands of Kamalizeni relating to the murder case at hand.
But Nyirenda, responding on the same date of November 25, challenged Kamalizeni that he would neither receive apology nor damages as demanded.
Kamalizeni, through Chibwana, complained that on or about the November 18 2014 at Kawale Police Station in presence of police officers, Nyirenda repeatedly called him a murderer.
Reads the letter in part: “Further…you warned Monica Nyirongo, our client’s employee that she must be careful with him because he is a known murderer and would kill her.
“The statement you made in their natural and ordinary meaning meant and were understood to mean…that our client is dangerous person who committed murders…that our client is a dangerous person.”
Kamalizeni warns that unless Nyirenda apologises, he was going to commence legal action.
But in response to the letter, Nyirenda accuses Kamalizeni, who is on court bail of attempting to hoodwink his client.
“The lies made to James Msiska shows that your Client is dishonest…,” reads Nyirenda’s response adding, “Any statement that was made was a fair description of your client based on what he did to James Msiska and on what is on court record.”n
