Hip-hop artist Fredokiss has joined the UTM Party. The artist is set to be officially welcomed into the party today at Zingwangwa Youth Centre in Blantyre.

According to information from the UTM Party, Fredokiss will be welcomed by the party’s vice-president Michael Usi and its patron Noel Masangwi.  The event, which is expected to start at 10am, will feature music performance by a number of up-and-coming artists.

Fredokiss: We need to demystify the political space

In an interview yesterday, the Ndikatseka Maso star confirmed of his latest political move, saying his decision to join the party was mainly because he sees the establishment as a safe space for a new generation of ideas which he represents.

He said: “We need to demystify the political space and have a lot of young people as active participants in the agenda-setting space. I am walking the talk. The political space needs new and creative players and UTM offers that platform for change.”

The artist first flirted with politics in  the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections when he contested as an independent member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Constituency. The artist narrowly lost to the incumbent Noel Lipipa of Democratic Progressive Party.

Asked whether people should expect to see him on the ballot again under UTM Party sponsorship, the rapper simply said: “The future is in God’s hands.”

Fredokiss said he wants to inspire people of his age that they have a voice that counts and the need for them to be part of the team to actualise the desired change for Malawi.

“My ambition is more humanitarian. I want to be part of the process that creates a safe space for political participation and get others on board too,” he said.

UTM Party secretary general Patricia Kaliati said the party’s ideology is built around the youth and the addition of Fredokiss to its ranks is more than a welcome development.

She said: “He is not just a youth. He is a youth who is well connected to his fellow youths. We know he will bring on board ideas which will reflect well with the needs of the youth of this country. We are happy to count him one of us.”

The list of performers during the welcome event includes DJ Wayne, DJ Storm, Bucci, Spyral, Leslie, Lackie, Smacks, Kizzo B, Masikito, Skuva Pyramid, Dalo Fresh, Pon G, Princess Multi Kay and Born Chris, among others.
