Fredokiss will in March next year become the first local musician to attempt to fill up Kamuzu Stadium during the launch of his new album Ghetto Angel.

In an interview, Fredokiss said the event, scheduled for March 28 2021, will be more than just an album launch.

“It’s mainly a humanitarian concert where we will have a lot of human-centred activities taking place as we move closer to the date. One of the issues we will deal with is domestic violence and rape. We will give more information as we go,” he said.

Although this will be the first attempt by a local musician to fill up a stadium during an album launch, the artist once held a show at Mzuzu Stadium which was filled to capacity.

“This will be the biggest music concert by a Malawian. I can’t see a better venue for my fan base. I am a better version of Fredokiss. I only see God in me. This will not be the first time I fill up a stadium, only that this is bigger,” said Fredokiss.

Currently, Covid-19 measures in Malawi allow 7 000 people to gather for a football match which is far less than the 40 000 capacity of Kamuzu Stadium.

The musician, however, said the event will follow all Covid-19 preventive measures.

“We will adhere to the measures. Similarly, we are usually advised to set up our events in a way that protects the turf,” said the artist.

According to Fredokiss, the Kamuzu Stadium concert will be a precursor to a much bigger gig scheduled for Lilongwe later next year.

Commenting on Ghetto Angel, the artist said he is planning to have 12 songs in the album.

“It was recorded at various studios locally and in South Africa. GD and Low Budget Records are the main producers. They have literally produced my music career.

“This is my second one, after Kunditcha Fredo, it has been singles. My whole music career has been built on one album and singles,” he said.

In a separate interview, Kamuzu Stadium’s manager Ireen Mkoko said there are conditions that ought to be met by people planning to use the stadium.

“For all football matches, the capacity has been increased to 7 000 but for musical shows, we are yet to do calculations. In terms of protecting the artificial turf, it is a must to have a tarpaulin to cover the entire pitch,” she said.
