A group of professional ladies calling themselves Friends of Malawi Netball has organised a Ladies Night Party as a thank you to Malawi Queens for making the country pride at the recent Fast5 World Netball Series in Auckland, New Zealand.

The group’s chairperson Felister Jumbe, who is legal services manager of the Malawi Housing Corporation, said on Tuesday they have received blessings from the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) and the party will be held at the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex on Friday from 6.30pm.

Jumbe said the do will be strictly for ladies (except journalists and deejays) and each patron will pay K5 000 (about $15).

She said apart from celebrating with the Queens, they would also like to raise funds to help the team prepare well to defend the Africa Netball Championships title next year.

“We have realised that the status of the Queens does not correspond with the meagre financial and material support they get locally. We have, therefore, invited a number of influential ladies, including executives of local companies to appreciate Queens’ achievements and give netball a boost,” she said.

At the event, renowned fashion designer Cathy Kamthuzi will dress the Queens and showcase her 2012 collection through a fashion show. There will also be a raffle draw and a dancing contest.

At the Fast5 Series, the Queens had historic triumphs over the world’s number one Australia twice (33-15 and 33-30) and fourth-placed England 27-23 although they failed to improve on their fifth position.
