Funeral committee dissolved over promiscuity

Group village head (GVH) Loti Chisambi in Mzimba has dissolved a funeral committee following complaints that members were turning it into a sex flatform, Nation on Sunday has learnt.

Lawrence Chisambi, a son to the chief, said the main responsibility of the committee is to mobilise resources and oversee the preparation of meals for people during the mourning period.

He said for a long time, the committee, which comprises married men and women, has been engaging in activities unrelated to funeral organisation such as love affairs.

“It appears the committee was thriving on extramarital affairs, which we were not aware of until now. It only came to light last month when one woman reported to her husband that the chairperson was coercing her into sex,” he explained.

Chisambi also disclosed that the concerned woman further informed her husband that the chairperson had been fondling her sexually in an apparent attempt to seduce her.

The chairperson is reported to have pleaded guilty to all the charges leveled against him and was duly fined by the traditional court.

However, some members protested the decision, arguing the GVH should have extended his punishment to all members.

“At this point, it was revealed that the whole committee was rotten. In fact, both male and female members were found wanting morally because it was also discovered that some female members were fueling promiscuity in this committee. The decision was taken to dissolve it pending institution of a new one soon,” said Chisambi.
