Malawi’s Flames will be without key striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango in their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda set for Kamuzu Stadium on Monday.

The Orlando Pirates Striker is suspended from the crucial qualifier after accumulating two yellow cards.

The forward got his second yellow in Malawi 1-0 victory over South Sudan on Wednesday at El Hilal Stadium in Khartoum, Sudan.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communication director G0mezgani Zakazaka confirmed the development in an interview yesterday.

“Yes,Gaba is out. He won’t take part in this match,” he said.

Coach Meck Mwase said though the team will miss Gaba, his absence offers an opportunity for others to rise to the occasion.

Meanwhile, left back Precious Sambani, who suffered a knock during the match against South Sudan and was scored by Dennis Chembezi, is expected to return for the Monday tie.

Malawi need to win at all cost to sail through to the final to be hosted by Cameroon next year.

The Cranes on the other hand, need a draw to join Burkina Faso who already qualified.

Burkina Faso, lead the group with nine points followed by Uganda who have eight points.

Malawi’s Flames are third with seven points while South Sudan anchor the group with three points and are out of contention.

As Malawi hosts Uganda, Burkina Faso will be at home against South Sudan in dead rubber encounter.
